About me

A brief run-up to the present

My interest in photography began during my high school years. I had an intense passion for art and photography but there was only occasional access to a borrowed camera.

All this changed when I moved to the UK and acquired a professional camera and a couple of lenses (which I continue to use even today!). Over the next decade I travelled extensively and took pictures in abundant quantities, teaching myself through mistakes and experimentation.

In 2005 I received a boost when a corporate in London bought a themed set of pictures for their offices. This provided enough enthusiasm for me to pursue my hobby more seriously after moving to Singapore.

I remain self-taught, having had no formal instruction in the techniques or tools of photography.

Exhibitioning history

The British Club – October/November 2006. 22 pictures displayed in foyer area.

The Arts House – September 2007. First fully planned and curated show. 54 pictures taken across the world demonstrated the depth and breadth of my portfolio.

Alliance Francaise de Singapour – April 2008. Repeat of the previous show plus some new images.

The Arts House – February 2009. A collection themed on Asia, 59 pictures showcased my observations during my travels across the region. I donated all proceeds to two children’s charities.

The Arts House – February 2012. 55 pictures once again themed around Asia, this time I emphasised the rapidly changing environment and ethos and again donated the sale proceeds.

Philosophy And Credo

I am a purist and remain faithful to the truth and spontaneity of what I see and capture on film – presenting the moment to the viewer pure and unchanged. Being self-taught, my instincts and disregard for rules of form, design and school drive me to seek new freedoms of perception and expression.

My portfolio is eclectic – the canvas is spread across the globe, from Mongolia to Argentina, Norway to Vietnam and my subjects range from people and animals to nature and architecture.

I firmly believe that all things have visual beauty to offer. Whether you see it or not depends on your point of view.

A Personal Profile

I was born in north India and have always lived and grown up in big cities in and outside of India. Early opportunities to travel extensively and live in diversely interesting parts of the world during my formative years helped develop my world-views, rejecting all forms of prejudice and conflict.

I returned to India to graduate and qualify as a chartered accountant before entering the world of banking. A work related move to the UK in 1995 again provided ample opportunities for travel and infused fresh blood into my innate interest in photography. My experiences around the world have made me truly a world citizen.

I moved in 2006 to Singapore where I have lived since.
